Abstract
The tomol, or plank boat, holds significant cultural and historical importance among the Chumash people of coastal Southern California. For centuries, these expertly crafted vessels served as essential tools for maritime transportation, fishing, trade, and cultural exchange along the Pacific coast. The art of constructing tomols was passed down through generations, representing a profound connection to Chumash heritage and traditional ecological knowledge.
